The Magpie Collective Exchange is a place to connect with other gardeners, activists, artists, revolutionaries, and craftspeople to trade food, "private property" assets (such as land for a garden), and services on a non-hierchical level. By non-hierchical, i mean, we value all work equally, i.e. legal work or proofreading just as much as we value garden work, a bike tune-up, or housecleaning. Welcome to the blog of the magpie collective: a loosely affiliated group of artists, activists, and educators committed to social justice, education, the environment, freedom, and democracy. We fight, write, create, advocate, and organize for justice and equality for all regardless of race, color, legal status, sexual orientation, gender, age, or religious belief or affiliation. We act locally, but with attention to the implications of neoliberalism and globalization.
We draw our name from the magpie, an intelligent and crafty bird found throughout the world. The magpie, a notorious trickster, is a messenger of good news, a harbinger of good luck, and a symbol of happiness. Magpies fiercely protect their families. Working together they often disrupt the actions of larger birds of prey (like eagles).
This blog serves as a resource for political commentary and analysis, as well as updates on events, legislative actions, policy hearings, and other information relevant to all those who believe a better world is possible.
